AIRE Examinations are held at Rose Cottage Riding School

In August 2008, initially a rather misty day in the Malin area, 24 youngsters at Rose Cottage Riding School took and passed AIRE qualifications in Stable Management and Equitation. It all starts with lessons and demonstrations of course.  Careful hands-on teaching and training is given by the people at Rose Cottage and pupils are only put in for examinations when they are ready.  In order to show something of our careful approach here are photos of some of the youngsters who later went on to pass their Level 1 tests, attending a Pony Day at Rose Cottage Riding School earlier in the year in lovely weather.  Kate and Ashleigh are explaining the parts of the pony and Sam is teaching the parts of the tack and how to mount a pony correctly.

Here is the follow up.  These pictures are of those taking the Level 1 Test on the 22nd August.  They start with Kate giving the candidates some final advice, then there are the stable management tests and finally those in equitation skills.  The independent examiner, Gillian Doherty, can be seen putting the children through their paces in some of them.

The next set of images is of those taking the Level 2 and 3 tests on the day.  The right hand two pictures on the top row below are of Ashleigh on her horse Dan and at the bottom is Imogen riding her pony Crooked.

All 24 candidates passed these rigorous tests. A wonderful result and all are to be congratulated.  Here (below) they all are with their certificates. On the left are the Level 1 award winners and in the centre, those awarded Level 2 and 3. Both groups are accompanied by their teachers and by their independent examiner, Gillian Doherty. This success attracted the attention of the Insishowen Times and in the image on the right below, you can see how the Times reported the event in their edition of the 29th August.  Article here reproduced by kind permission of the Editor, Mr Ciaran O'Neill.
